Making the Jaimie pyjamas? Wondering what fabric to choose? I’m going to take you through some fabric suggestions for our latest sewing pattern – the good news is that these fabrics are easy-to-sew, easy-to-find and come in lots of lovely prints!
If you haven’t yet seen the latest sewing pattern to join our collection, the Jaimie pyjamas are an ideal sewing project for beginners, and a satisfyingly speedy make for more experienced stitchers. Super comfy, they’re perfect for sleeping, lounging, and working from home – just throw on a smart blouse and you’re ready for your Zoom meeting!
If you’re a new stitcher and are nervous about getting stuck into your first project, Jaimie is designed to be the perfect first make. It is easy to sew and fit, plus there is an accompanying free video tutorial
where Tilly takes you through making the Jaimie pyjama bottoms from start to finish.
It’s also a great pattern for teaching people to sew and, as we often get requests for patterns for teens and tweens, we’ve added an extra small size to this pattern – equivalent to UK size 4 / US size 0 / EUR size 32.
Jaimie is designed for light- to medium-weight woven fabrics such as cotton lawn, shirting, “quilting cotton”, flannel, double gauze and viscose (rayon). The first four of these options are great for beginners as they’re to cut and sew. If you have a few projects under your belt, you might want to pick a more floaty viscose or crinkly double gauze for a luxury pair of pyjama bottoms or shorts.
We reckon anything goes when it comes to pyjama prints, so you can have so much fun choosing your fabric! Pick that doughnut print, show your love of cats in what you’re wearing, or go for a bold floral that you wish you had as wallpaper. The opportunities to play with print are endless!
We haven’t seen these fabrics IRL, so do request a sample if you want to check it’s exactly what you are looking for before making your purchase. If you are completely new to shopping online for fabric

Did you love the fabrics we used for our samples? Well, we can share the details with you!
We made the long teal pyjama bottoms in a luxurious double gauze fabric gifted to us from Higgs and Higgs. It is covered in tiny gold dots that glint in the light – it is just stunning. They have this fabric in six different colours
so there is plenty to choose from!
The cute shorts were made with a lovely lightweight cotton from the Ruby Star Society collection that was gifted to us by The Fabric Fox. The print we used is now sold out, but they have a great range of Ruby Star Society fabrics
to choose from.

There are sooooo many cotton fabrics to choose from. Cotton fabrics are easy to work with as they don’t shift around as you cut and sew them. Cotton fabrics also won’t shrink too much in the wash, but you should always prewash your fabric before cutting out your project to be safe.
We chose a stripe cotton shirting for our pattern cover sample which look so nice. If you loved them you could try the striped cotton fabric
on the top right – it would look so luxurious as PJs. Floral prints are always a good idea and you could choose something lovely from the Rifle Paper Co. collection like the one in the top left, or go for this classic yet vibrant floral
on the bottom right.
I think the juice boxes
(bottom middle) are my favourite!

Cotton lawn is easy to sew and luxurious to wear. Wondering what the difference is between cotton and cotton lawn? Cotton lawn uses a higher thread count that gives it its silky, untextured feel. It is lightweight and breezy and can sometimes be slightly sheer so it is worth getting a sample to look at it up close.
Liberty Tana Lawn cotton is so iconic and a great choice to make a special pair of Jaimie PJs as a gift for yourself or someone else. Sewbox have a wide range of Liberty fabrics
– there are a few in the selection above but do browse to find your perfect Liberty lawn!
The bold floral
in the middle row on the right would make a statement. If you are dreaming of holidays, the palm print in the middle will bring tropical vibes to your loungewear.

Tilly describes double gauze as “like wearing a cloud”, which makes it a great option for cosy nightwear. Double gauze is a fabric made up of two layers of fine open-weave cotton, attached together with tiny stitches.
Double gauze can be a slightly trickier fabric to work with as it’s delicate and naturally creased, but if you have a couple of projects under your belt you can definitely manage this wonderful fabric!
You will find viscose in a multitude of prints – florals, tropical prints, leopard, novelty… the list is endless. This shrimp dobby spot viscose
is so much fun (top left), and I love the idea of making a pair with the night sky
on it (bottom right). If you love leopard print
(top right) will match with any t-shirt in your wardrobe. And who can resist the unicorn print
I hope you’ve enjoyed looking at all the pretty fabrics and can now go off and fill your drawers with me-made PJs. Bedtime never felt so good!
